At the tender age of 13, Lorde, whose real name is Ella Yelich-O'Connor, landed a contract with Universal thanks to a talent competition at her school. At the end of 2012, the singer, born in 1996, released her first EP, The Love Club, on the internet, which brought her attention beyond the borders of her home country. After the EP was officially released on iTunes, the single Royals became a number one hit and went triple platinum. Following sold-out shows in New Zealand and Australia, the track Tennis Court was released in 2013, making Lorde the first New Zealand artist ever to top the US singles charts. In the same year, Lorde made her debut with Pure Heroine, which also shot to number 1 in the charts and earned the singer four Grammy nominations. In 2014, Lorde won two awards for Royals – Song of the Year and Best Pop Performance. In 2017, Lorde released her second studio album, Melodrama, and continued the success of her debut album. In 2012, her third number one record, Solar Power, was released. In keeping with her usual four-year cycle, fans of the musician can look forward to her new album, Virgin, in 2025.
